At The Orchard we are always keen to stock and work with British designed or manufactured goods and suppliers.  We were therefore thrilled to be introduced to a great, small, British, family business who both design and manufacture all their work here in England.

They have inspired us to establish a new Best Of British category on The Orchard which we are working on right now and to get the ball rolling we’d like to introduce you to our first brand, Poppy Forge.

Designed and made in the Great Britain, Poppy Forge is a family run business that has been manufacturing high quality hand made garden products for over 25 years.

They have built up an excellent name in the industry not only for British-made quality but also expertise and value for money. They specialise in solid steel constructed items and work closely with the Clematis Society developing arches, climbers and gazebos, as well as working alongside the renowned David Austin Roses, who use many of their products to display their roses at their best.

Poppy Forge pride themselves in not using automated machinery to produce any of their ranges as they are all bent and fabricated by hand and individually welded. Pure polyester black antique powder coating over iron phosphate is used to ensure the quality of these items is above the rest.

The emphasis of Poppy Forges work is always on quality of workmanship, detail and finish.  Every hammer blow will leave its mark and this unique texture gives the work life.

Blacksmithing is a craft that has been practiced for thousands of years. These artisans sought to show their skill with hammer and hand by producing decorative but functional items. The decoration of these practical items and indeed where the decoration becomes part of the items structure and function were proof of the blacksmiths skill and ingenuity of making and design.
