Crisp and cool wallpaper shades mixed with a mish-mash of florals, stripes and polka dot – welcome to the world of shabby chic design!  This is a world where it pays to be a little mis-matched and haphazard; all the while staying true to the idea of surrounding yourself with all things pretty.  There really is no need to stick to clean lines and brand new shining chrome accessories as the shabby chic look is all about the slightly flawed appearance and well-loved look.

This design idea follows through into your actual furniture too with slightly worn looking dressers and vintage tables and chairs.  You need to think along the lines of giving something a slightly sentimental look to it – as if it’s been in the family for generations when, in fact, you probably bought it quite recently.  Looks to think about include items of furniture with distressed corners showing wear and tear or an antique-looking dressing table with a vintage feel.  Sourcing items of shabby chic furniture can be relatively easy and you can often pick something up at a local market or charity shop.  Auction houses are a great source too and you may be able to pick up a bargain or two.  Don’t be deterred by pieces which may be missing the a handle or castor because they can be easily replaced at a later date.  You won’t have to worry about finding exactly the right replacement either as the shabby chic look is all about bespoke detailing so different coloured handles will only add to the look!

Your new piece of shabby chic furniture, no matter which item you choose should reflect your personality and be something which you absolutely love.  So, start trawling those charity shops and markets today!
