There are many types of reproduction antique furniture available in today’s market.  Reproduction French Furniture is just one of the many options available to adorn your home at an affordable price.  French furniture is steeped in the country’s history with an ever-prevailing sense of style running through each piece.

Reproduction French furniture can be found taking it’s inspiration from many eras of French history.  The Medieval years, between the 10th and 15th centuries introduced ornate Gothic pieces – oversized benches and tables made from French Oak furnished homes with rich, busy tapestries decorating the surrounding walls.  This period brought with it the chunky carving which you will often see in reproduction pieces, often depicting religious scenes and symbols.  Next on the timeline was the Renaissance period with heavy Roman influence and much of the furniture such as dressers and chests actually resembled replica buildings in its ornate design.

Different styles followed, each taking its influence from political issues of the era and reflecting it in the homes of the French population.  The history of French furniture design is rich and an intriguing topic of research.  Every piece has a story to tell and it can be as much fun finding out about the history of your piece as it is with owning it.
